Why is decentralization necessary?

We are moving towards a decentralized web. Blockchain brings decentralization which means that there is no single control or single centralized machine, instead there are multiple people who participate and run the network.

But, why is decentralisation in technology necessary?
Here are a few problems that it solves :

1. Data loss risk - In a centralised system, all data uploads and transfers must go through a single data centre, which creates a single point of failure in the event that the data centre is compromised or shut down. Since thousands of systems share data control, a decentralised system reduces this risk. There is reduced risk of failure due to the large number of users and access points.

2. Security - In centralised systems, data breaches allow hackers to access all of the users' personal information with just one attack, whereas in decentralised systems, the hacker would have to penetrate all of the users' protected systems, which is a difficult task.

3. Privacy - We as users of technology, share all our information and this data is accessible to the tech companies. Everything in our lives is stored and tracked. A vast majority of the data is stored by a few tech giants. With decentralization, we get a peer-to-peer network wherein the users own their data and opt out of storing their data in these centralized entities.
